The short version

MySierraBox does not sell your information. We only collect what is needed to deliver messages from businesses you have chosen to connect with. You are always in control.

1. Who we are

MySierraBox is a service operated by Apphive, a Sierra Leone technology company located at 14B Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone. You can contact us at stephen@apphivesl.com.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the MySierraBox mobile app, what we do with it, and how we keep it safe.

2. What information we collect

When you register the MySierraBox app, we collect:

  • Your device information — the type of phone you have, the operating system version, and your app version. This is used to send you notifications and to help with technical support.
  • A unique device ID — a random code that identifies your installation. This is not your phone number or SIM card identity.
  • Your MSB Code — a personal recovery code that lets you restore your account on a new device. This is generated on your device and stored securely.
  • Your timezone and language settings — used to display messages at the right time and in the right format.

When you connect with a business, we also collect:

  • Your answers to the business connection form — for example, your name or account number as requested by the business. This information is shared with that specific business only.
  • Messages sent to you by businesses — these are stored so you can read them at any time.

We do not collect:

  • Your phone number or SIM identity
  • Your contacts or call history
  • Your location
  • Any information from other apps on your phone

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Deliver messages from businesses you have connected with
  • Send you push notifications when a new message arrives
  • Allow you to restore your connections when you change your phone
  • Help businesses verify your identity when you request a connection
  • Keep the service running reliably and securely
  • Fix technical problems if something goes wrong

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with any third party for their own use.

4. Who can see your information

Businesses you connect with can see the answers you gave on their connection form (for example, your name or account number). They cannot see information from your connections with other businesses.

Apphive staff may access your information only when needed to provide technical support or to investigate a complaint. Access is strictly limited and logged.

We may share information with the authorities if we are required to do so by the law of Sierra Leone.

5. How we keep your information safe

All data is stored on secure servers. Messages and connection details are transferred using encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your MSB Code is hashed — even we cannot read the original value.

Only authorised Apphive personnel can access the database, and all access is logged.

6. How long we keep your information

We keep your account information for as long as you use MySierraBox. If you disconnect from all businesses and stop using the app, your data is kept for up to 12 months before being deleted.

Messages expire according to the settings of the business that sent them — typically between 1 and 5 days. Expired messages are permanently deleted.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Disconnect from any business at any time from within the app
  • Ask us what information we hold about you — contact us and we will respond within 14 days
  • Ask us to delete your information — we will do so within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it

8. Children

MySierraBox is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has registered, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will notify you through the app.
